Tacoma City Council Meeting for May 25th, 2010 - A Contest
Tonight’s Tacoma City Council meeting is looking to be a long one. There’s the regular agenda plus a hearing on the comprehensive plan. THEN, the Arizona resolution will come back during unfinished business with another round of public comment.
Here’s the question: The meeting starts at 5:00 pm. At what time will the meeting adjourn? Guess in the comments. The closest guess will get 4 free passes to the Grand Cinema.
Guessing closes at 6:00 pm.

Well, I hope to get signed in and make comments on the Mobility Plan. Then scoot over to the Hub for the second round of Trivia. I have been at City Council meetings that lasted till 11 pm or so. My official guess is 11:20 PM.

This appears to be how the agenda will be conducted tonight:
* 5:00pm to 5:30pm – Regular agenda (NOT including the AZ resolution which is not yet on the agenda) will be open for public comment (if you plan to speak about Resolution 38305, do not sign up for this time slot)
* 5:30pm – Public Hearing will commence as planned to address the 2010 Amendments (South Tacoma zoning, Urban Forestry and Mobility Planning)
* Upon completion of the Public Hearing, the council meeting will resume, including conclusion of unfinished public comment of the original agenda…
* Then, Jake Fey intends to request reintroduction of Resolution 38035. PUBLIC TESTIMONY WILL BE TAKEN FOR THE TOPIC AT THIS TIME. (It’s not known if a sign-up sheet and copies of the updated resolution will be available at the start of the meeting, or not until this time.) The resolution will be voted on tonight and your voice is needed.

The City Clerk’s office said they will have three separate sign-up sheets for public comment tonight:
1) Regular agenda items
2) 2010 Amendment – Public Hearing
3) Reintroduced Resolution 38305
Signing up on the right list to be called forward at the right time will help keep things on task.
Too bad the filtration issue and McCarthy settlement will be somewhat buried…

They got a nine minute late start… is guessing officially closed?
I see Robert-Jesse-the-Traveler-Hill is in the front row, stubbornly remaining sitting through the pledge.
Not a lot of OWG (old white guys).

Guessing officially closes at 6:00.

Hey – the time post is an hour off on this website! It’s now 5:20pm (the council meeting has started) but the time stamp is still posting in the 4 o’clock hour. (Guess Exit133 is operating in Arizona time, but awesome advantage for late guessers!)

9:27 p.m. I’m sure by that time, Councilmembers will be begging to pack it in.
P Patrick Edelbacher May 26, 2010
Last week was about 9:35 or so. I’m going to guess this week will go till 10:15pm.

Councilmembers engaged in sidebar conversations during public testimony. One Councilmember appears to be napping. Another is glued to their Blackberry. Another is posturing and making faces at members of the public whose opinions are inconsistent with their own. The Mayor needs a lesson on the rules of order and procedure. Why isn’t Mello reclusing himself on the Comp Plan amendments. As a CLC staff member he worked on efforts to bring those amendments forward in promotion of CLC goals. Definate difference in the tone and manner by which members of the public are addressed — depending on whether or not they support what the Council has decided to do. Everyone NEEDS remedial body language coaching. Come on folks! This is embarrassing!

The Traveler is back up at 8:36PM.

Weyland,
I concur regarding the entire council, and Marty Campbell is one of the worst.
He’s clearly emailing, smirking, leaning back in his chair to roll his eyes at the ceiling, coming across like a snotty teenager… what a switch from the humble candidate he pretended to be.
Once sworn in, he immediately became an arrogant brat, clearly only interested in what his business cronies tell him to do. He doesn’t even try. Utterly, utterly unprofessional.
J Jesse May 26, 2010
If you’re going to catch the time by looking out of the Suite 133 window than I say 3:17.
E Erik B. May 26, 2010
My clock says it ended at 9:24.
E Erik B. May 26, 2010
Looks like Marisa won with a guess of 9:28, missed it by only 4 minutes.
W Weyland Duir May 26, 2010
Adjourned at 9:23 p.m.
H Heidi May 26, 2010
The resolution passes. Hear-tell that people in the audience stood and put their backs to Campbell as he spoke. Strickland got the last word (jab) in at Marty, too.
The gavel banged at 9:23pm (Click cable official time). I think Weyland is the winner…
M Marisa May 26, 2010
One minute off, darn!
T tacoma1 May 26, 2010
Finally a long controversial city council meeting. That was refreshing. I’m glad that the city council passed the resolution admonishing Arizona’s imigration witch hunt.
I’m ecstatic that the City Council is moving forward with the urban forestry and mobility master plan.

I tried following this. I really did. But then I got bored.
T Tacoma Joe May 26, 2010
Really, “2Phat”… I’m sure you’d be an adequate replacement for short-attention-span Campbell, then.
