The Public Esplanade Grows Piece by Piece

We caught this tidbit from the TNT – the public esplanade on the Thea Foss is set to have another 400 feet on it by the time Tall Ships gets here this summer. Last summer the Foss Waterway Development Authority removed an aging wharf and is replacing it with the wide pedestrian esplanade.

The old wharf was actually holding up about 30% of the historic Balfour building that houses the Foss Waterway Seaport (formerly known as the Working Waterfront Museum), so replacing it was a first step in preserving the building.

The esplanade is still not contiguous—it currently ends at roughly 15th St at Johnny’s, but the long term goal is to connect the entire Foss with the wide pedestrian area. Some day we’ll be able to walk the waterfront

No council meeting on July 3…because the following day is a holiday.

Well that means July 3 is a holiday too I guess. Is this a practice that’s observed by all city departments or just the city council? And since July 3 and 4th are holidays and June 30 and July 1 are weekend days then I guess we should give all the city employees Monday the 2nd off too. And why be stingy I guess we’d better make thursday and Friday July 5 and 6 paid days off too. Wouldn’t want people to have to truncate their holiday plans just to come in to work for 2 days.

Wait – the city has a contract with a company called Gun-a-rama Wholesale? Seriously?

Yes..GUNARAMA Wholesale. We sell them our used service pistols, in this case, over 200 or so I believe and then they sell them to retail stores.

Maybe the 253 Glock is more fitting than I thought…
