Weekly STAR Center Tours

An article last week in The Daily Index reminded us about the weekly opportunities to tour Metro Parks’ new South Tacoma Activity and Recreation (STAR) Center. Every Thursday Metro Parks is offering guided tours of the now nearly completed community center.

When completed, the $16 million, 32,000 square foot Center will be home to a variety of facilities including a new music and dance studio, a teaching kitchen, fitness room, indoor/outdoor playground, hall and party rental space for Metro Parks and other community events. The Center is also aiming for LEED Silver Certification, so measures have been taken in the construction of the building to make it environmentally friendly. These include a natural stormwater management system, ground source heat pumps, natural ventilation and daylighting, and the use of recycled/renewable/low-emitting materials.
