Point Defiance Master Plan in the homestretch

We’re in the last two weeks of a long process to update the Point Defiance Park Master Plan. After dozens of meetings, hundreds of citizen comments and a lot of planning, the Park Board is scheduled to vote on the proposed update Monday, Aug. 24.

More than a dozen people rose to share their views with the Park Board last night. There were many positive comments about the plan, and deep appreciation shown for the park itself.

There are two more critical meetings before the master plan is adopted, and we invite you to attend:

  • Noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St.: The City Council and Park Board will conduct a joint study session, and the Master Plan Update will be presented.
  • 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Metro Parks Headquarters, 4702 S. 19th St.: The Park Board will vote on the proposed Master Plan Update. There will be two times available for citizens to speak: Once after the start of the meeting, and once just before a vote is taken on the Master Plan Update.

More information about the master plan and Destination Point Defiance may be found at DestinationPointDefiance.org.
